Making Good Teaching Visible:
LLI Southwest at The Oakridge School is looking for session topics from innovative educators that cover a wide variety of active learning strategies. We are looking for Fishbowl sessions and General sessions. Deadline for submissions is Nov. 15, 2016.
Fishbowl Classroom/Debrief Sessions (45 min teaching/45 min debrief):
At LLI Southwest, we want to provide an opportunity to participate in sessions where good teaching practices are made visible. To make this possible, we plan to host sessions where presenters will conduct a lesson with students from The Oakridge School, instigating deeper reflection and discussion among professionals attending the lessons. The first 45 minutes will be an opportunity for presenters to teach students while attendees observe. Afterward, students will be dismissed, and the teacher will lead a 45 minute debrief with the attendees.
General Sessions (1 hr):
At LLI Southwest, there will also be an opportunity for presenters to host a conversation, workshop, or session without students. Presenters are invited to submit proposals on any topic related to innovative or student-centered learning, and we encourage potential presenters to engage their audience in discussion and active learning that goes beyond traditional direct instruction.
Active Session Information:
At LLI Southwest, we want all teachers to be treated like learners, all with different needs and concerns. Our active sessions should follow the formula of 20% lecture/presentation, 60% active learning (hands-on, discussion, collaboration, creation), and 20% reflection.
Presenters selected for LLI Southwest will be entitled to a $150 discount on registration. You will be provided information on registration upon notice of proposal acceptance.
